Two-step flow model. (Halsey)

The two-step flow model was developed in the 1940s because the hypodermic needle theory assumed the audience consumed media without thinking. Also, was considered too simplistic.

The two-step flow model instead suggests the audience are influenced by ‘opinion leaders’ in the media who influence how the audience react to media texts. The theory suggests the media is not all-powerful and that social factors are important.

In my opinion the two-step theory is still relevant today as people (celebrities for example) have a big impact on audiences' opinion on different types of media and can influence their fans or people who are interested in them.

TotalBiscuit, The Cynical Brit the YouTube blogger reinforces the two-sep flow model as their opinions on games are being viewed by a quarter of a million people and influences people whether they should purchase it or not simply based on his view of a game.

The article shows that celebrities such as Ed Sheeran, One Direction and other celebrities have many more followers on Twitter than politicians and people with a lot of authority. This suggests that celebrities have a greater impact on the public than politicians as more people follow them which suggests more people look up to them. The two-step theory is  reinforced as politicians have less followers and don't seem to share their opinions on the social networking site.
