Cover work-Dependency theory. (Halsey)

Dependency theory
Rokeach and DeFleur took Uses and Gratifications one step further in 1976 in suggesting that people have become dependent on the media.
With Dependency theory, they suggest that people rely on the media for information determining their decisions. This means the media can create many different feelings such as fear, anxiety, and happiness.

1) What do YOU primarily use the media for: entertainment or information? (Or something else?)
I use the media for both entertainment and a way to socialise with my friends.

2) To what extent do you feel we are dependent on the media?
In my opinion we are dependent on the media, as most of our time is spent using the media for a variety of things and is mostly consumed via mobile phones.

3) Has our dependence on the media changed over the last 10 years? How?
Yes it has changed as technology has increased and has become more advanced. Also because the media could be accessed through different platforms and devices people tend to use it more.

4) Read this Telegraph article – does this support Dependency theory? What is your personal opinion on this issue?
Yes, it supports the dependency theory as majority of people are dependent on the media for many reasons. For example, cooking recipes, booking flights etc. I believe that the media has taken over people's lives as the media is used nearly every minute of the day, for example: at school, applying for a job, doing homework, entertainment etc.
