The last question needs much more detail. Timing? please re-do.
The use of straight cuts makes more tension as it cuts in time with the drama. For example, when there was gun shots, there was background music which was slow and the straight cuts then showed the setting and had changed slowly to another shot to reinforce the effect of the music.
Additionally, the use of having of having the music playing from when the villain and protagonist first spoke right up to the end suggests that this was the most tensed and dramatic part of the scene, the parallel music also reinforces this idea.
