BBC Question Time: binary oppositions and ideology. (Halsey)

What examples of binary opposition can you suggest from watching this clip?

One example of binary opposition inferred from this clip would be immigrants being portrayed as unacceptable individuals who come to Britain and do not influence it in a positive way and British people being presented as acceptable due to it being their home country. Immigrants are seen to come and ruin Britain according to the politician, Nigel Farage. The politician's views were expressed as immigrants taking the jobs of British people, leading to immigrants gaining a negative profile. This causes a debate between Nigel Farage and Russel Brown. Due to this debate, another binary opposition is displayed, goodness and evil. Nigel Farage is seen to be the evil one as he is being hard headed and not taking into consideration the good immigrants serve the country. However, Russel Brown is seen as the one with goodness as he is looking at immigrants as a whole and is picking up the benefits of their presence.

What ideologies are on display in this clip?

The main ideology of immigrants is alternative because Russel Brand had picked out advantages and positive things about immigrants rather than discussing the bad things about them. Usually, when the word immigrant is heard automatically people associate it with unpleasant things so as Russel Brown is talking good goes against that belief and suggests that immigrants instead help the British Society.
