In this image, there are several different lightings used to create an effect, these are: back lighting, top lighting and low-key lighting. The choice of back lighting creates a silhouette. The silhouette creates an impression that the female is dominant and holds more power than the male who seems to be the protagonist as she is lit brighter and the male is under darkness. This idea subverts the stereotype of females. Females are usually known to be under power by the male and are to obey males but in this image the female has some cleavage showing therefore suggesting she may be a villain.
During this extract there is a variety lighting being used. Top lighting is also contributed in this extract to make the protagonist seem more appealing and powerful. In order to soften the shadows out, filler lighting was used. High-key lighting was used to make the extract seem more realistic and emphasises the mood in the room.
