Extension task. (Bush)

Mise-en-scene:

This still image is taken from an extract from the movie 'Think Like A Man Too' which is a comedy movie. The women which are most discoverable are the protagonists. Within this still image we instantly recognise the costumes worn. The protagonists are all nicely dressed which creates an enigma code: what are they celebrating? The actors' body language alongside facial expressions suggests that the party is full of life as they aren't close together and have their arms up signifying confidence. The lighting used in the still image is quite bright which reinforces how enthusiastic the party is. Additionally, props are used to bring the extract more to life. This is suggested as there are banners promoting parts of the night club alongside having chandeliers in a night club will give the audience more of an understanding as to how the night club isn't cheap and trashy but is quite lavish.

Comparison of the mise-en-scene:

Avatar
Love and Basketball
Texas Chainsaw 3D

Costume:

'Avatar', the sci-fi movie has a strange costumer. The costume for all the actors could be considered as make-up too as they are blue and not a usual colour and also don't have proper clothing. Whereas in the horror movie 'Texas Chainsaw' and (the hybrid genre of romance and drama) 'Love and Basketball' the protagonists have a costume which is considered normal and is suitable for the scene. In the horror movie, the actors are half dressed, this could signify that the actors were mid sexual activities to then discover something and had stopped in a hurry. Swiftly moving on, during the hybrid genre movie of romance and sport 'Love and Basketball' the costumes being used would reinforce the genre. The protagonists are dressed in rough clothing which would be considered as sport wear.

Lighting:
The lighting used in 'Texas Chainsaw' would be considered as chiaroscuro; the use of both lightings-dark and light. The use of chiaroscuro creates dramatic shadows. This is suitable for horror movies as it engages the audience as it would help them to establish that something dramatic is about to take place. However,  the lighting used in 'Love and Basketball' is opposite. It has bright lighting with no shadows which may suggest it's a enthusiastic atmosphere. The sci-fi movie seems to differ from the other two, this is suggested as the image is quite bright in lighting but there are slight shadows. This may be to present who is in power and who is under power.

Actors:
The actors in all of the still images have a facial expression alongside some body language. For instance, in 'Love and Basketball' the protagonists have their body parts crossing each other with a smile on both of their faces, this is a sign of romance which is the genre for the movie. In 'Avatar', the protagonists have a straight facial expression but are facing each other. This may be because they are unaware of the surroundings and what to do in such environment.

Make-up:
Make-up isn't very noticeable in the movies, 'Texas Chainsaw' and 'Love and Basketball' but it is made very clear that the actors in 'Avatar' wear make-up. This is because they are painted blue with additional features. This is given to emphasise the genre of the movie, sci-fi.

Props:

In 'Love and Basketball' the prop used would be the basketball. This prop reinforces the title of the movie and it suggests to the audience that the movie is about the protagonists playing basketball and not actually watching somebody else play.
